The Nez Perce Community Tribal Longhouse
Planning Home About News Contact Work
Project Description: The Nez Perce Tribal Longhouse is envisioned to be a community center dedicated to the preservation of history and culture. RGU provided renderings and construction documents for the construction of the facility as well as a feasibility study for the placement on a historically significant site. Critical to the design of the Longhouse is the orientation of the building to the rising sun and how visitors to the facility will be directed around and into the building. A bare earth floor in the community hall will pay homage to mother earth and translucent panels along the roof line will admit the rising sun. The site feasiblity study examined sites of historical significance to the tribe. Recom-mendations were made to the Tribe’s Executive Committee as to the placement and orientation of the building.
