Client: Location: Big Bend Community College Moses Lake Washington
Project Description: The New STEM Center is an addition and renovation of the College’s Math and Science Building. RGU Worked Closely with the STEM Director and Staff in the design of spaces that would promote student success in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Careful use of alternates allowed for the remodel of a chemistry laboratory in the same building. The STEM Center features a New STEM Lab, Group Study Area, Dividable Math Lab, Testing Center, CAD Lab, and a Digital Logic Lab. The motivation is to create an open and inviting space where students can receive academic support, collaborate in groups and receive customized help aimed at meeting their unique needs. The STEM Center supports the formation of Learning Communities; the educational method in which peer group synergies help all students advance. Integration of technology is crucial to the design to the STEM Center as systems were chosen that are easily adaptable to changing technologies and teaching methods. During Programming tours were taken of other STEM facilities, including UofI’s Math Lab, to assist the STEM Director and Staff in visioning the possibilities and making choices that were based on proven success.
